I. Overview

The specialty of engineering management started in 1983; in 1985, it started to set the specialty of technical secondary school of architectural management engineering; in 1999, it was approved of the undergraduate specialty of engineering management; in the spring of 2000, it was started to enroll students. The specialty was firstly opened in Anhui Province. The project management major was approved as a key construction major in the school in 2006. In 2008, 2013 and 2018, it passed the national higher education project management major evaluation by the Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development with excellent conclusions for three consecutive rounds. In 2010, it was approved as a national characteristic specialty construction site; in 2012, it was approved as an Anhui Provincial outstanding engineer education and training program specialty; and in 2017, it was approved as an Anhui Province brand specialty construction site.

Master of Science in Management Science and Engineering, Master of Engineering Management (MEM) and Master of Engineering in architectural and civil engineering (civil engineering project management and building economy and management) are in the School of Economics and Management. The engineering training center, BIM experimental center and relevant laboratories have complete practical teaching facilities, providing good conditions for the training of outstanding engineers. At present, there are 18 professional teachers, including 3 professors, 7 associate professors, 5 doctors, and more than 80% of double-qualified teachers with first-class construction engineer and cost engineer qualifications.

II. Specialty Positioning and Specialty

The engineering management specialty relies on the advantages of the schools civil engineering discipline, combines the characteristics of the discipline and the social requirements for engineering management talents, establishes the modern engineering education concept, inherits the “spirit of craftsman in Anhui”, bases itself on Anhui and faces the whole country, and trains high-quality application-oriented talents with social responsibility, innovative spirit and practical ability for the construction industry with all-round development of morality, intelligence, physique, art and labor.

According to the requirements of running a school on focusing on construction with Anhui style, the major of engineering management insists on inheriting and innovating Anhui style’s architectural culture and internalizes the spirit of Anhui craftsman into the spiritual character of the majority of students. Relying on the professional advantages of the subject of “comprehensive civil engineering” in our school, the students have received good basic education in civil engineering and basic training of civil engineers. Attention should be paid to the idea of engineering education throughout the main links of talent training, and professional practice education should be strengthened. Graduates have solid basic theory, good professional quality, strong practical ability, and are trained to be applied talents who are rooted at the grassroots level and bear hardships and stand hard work. The training of characteristic talents has achieved remarkable results and has been recognized by leading enterprises in the construction field inside and outside the province and the competent government departments.
